The fisheries sector in the Union Territory is set for a major infrastructure boost, with the Center approving ₹246 crore project proposals aimed at upgrading ports and aimed at improving the livelihoods of coastal fishing communities.
Official sources said the existing fishing harbor at Thengaithittu will be upgraded at an estimated cost of ₹15.63 crore. The project includes the construction of modern facilities such as an auction house, a net repair shed, a fisherman’s shed, boat repair facilities and public amenities, along with the improvement of existing infrastructure.
