There is a strong pro-Left wave sweeping through Kerala, which is growing stronger by the day, Communist Party of India (CPI) state secretary and Kerala Vikasana Munnetta Jatha captain Binoy Viswam said on Wednesday. Addressing a press conference in Kollam on the third day of his tour, Mr. Viswam noted that the enthusiastic reception the Yatra received at every stop was a clear indication of public support. He added that the government’s sincerity in fulfilling its promises and commitment to the people had greatly enhanced its popularity.
“The growing momentum of the LDF has thrown both the Congress and the BJP into a state of panic. They are resorting to disinformation campaigns because they are afraid to engage in real political debate. While the LDF stands by its record of governance, the opposition is desperate to divert public attention with baseless allegations,” he said. Talking about the ongoing problems of farmers, the CPI leader claimed that the central government’s actions against farmers are part of a deliberate move. “The Center has entered into a collusion with the United States to allow large-scale imports of grain, which explains their desire to reduce domestic food production. Despite central pressure, the state government has not withdrawn subsidies to farmers,” he said. Criticizing the Leader of the Opposition and the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president for their silence on the matter, Mr. Viswam suggested that the Congress was afraid of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while the BJP itself was acting out of fear of international interests.
Mr Viswam also targeted Kollam MP NK Premachandran over the ESI Medical College controversy, calling it a “political drama”. He said that the LDF was not against the establishment of medical colleges but insisted that the necessary physical infrastructure and guidelines must be met before the Essentiality certificate is issued. He questioned why the MP, despite his alleged clout in the Prime Minister’s office, failed to secure AIIMS for the state or focus first on setting the basic requirements for a medical college.
