Government officials from various ministries will hold a wide public consultation on the need for a flyover in Belagavi, which is planned to cross the city and connect two state highways.
The officials will not only seek input from the public but also clarify their doubts on various related issues.
A meeting will be held in Belagavi on January 6 for this purpose. Various interested parties will be invited to the meeting. Members of the general public can attend, district minister Satish Jarkiholi said in Belagavi on Wednesday.
The Minister stated that the plans will only be finalized after incorporating the input of the public and interested parties.
Public consultation is essential for a project of this magnitude because it directly affects people, traders, institutions and residents along the corridor, he said.
He stated that the tender documents will be finalized after the public meeting.
The minister asked the officials concerned to ensure alternative traffic arrangements during the construction so that there is no inconvenience to motorists and public, to work in inter-departmental coordination and to complete the project smoothly without causing problems to the common man or the administration.
“Belagavi is one of the biggest cities in Karnataka and it is growing fast day by day. Residents are also facing problems like traffic congestion. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion while minimizing public inconvenience,” he said.
Officials in the meeting said that the 8 km long structure will be constructed in three phases. The project does not involve the purchase of land, as it will be built on pillars that will be placed on public land. If feasible, feedback from citizens and stakeholders will be incorporated, they said.
The state cabinet released ₹270 crore for the project after approving it. After construction, it will connect Pune-Bengaluru National Highway No. 48 with Belagavi-Panjim National Highway No. 748.
The construction will be divided into three phases from Sankam Hotel to Rani Channamma Circle, Rani Channamma Circle to Dharmaveer Sambhaji Maharaj Chowk and from Dharmaveer Sambhaji Maharaj Chowk to Tilakwadi Third Railway Gate.
Officials from the district administration, police, transport, traffic and public works departments and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) attended the meeting.
