PSC exam irregularities: Crime Branch seeks documents

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing alleged irregularities in investigations at the Public Service Commission of Kerala (PSC) has formally sought documents from the constitutional body related to the controversial recruitment process.

Investigators were looking for records related to the controversial State Planning Board exams, including the question paper, answer keys, list of candidates who cleared the exam, details of those shortlisted for interviews and information related to the on-screen marking process.

However, while the PSC has provided full cooperation to the ongoing investigation, it remains to be seen whether the body is sharing confidential records, given that the commission generally does not share sensitive documents related to investigations with outside agencies.

The move comes after the crime branch recorded the statements of several candidates who had appeared for the PSC examinations conducted for three seats in the planning board. The candidates are learned to have submitted supporting evidence, including mark sheets and other documents they allegedly obtained from the PSC through the Right to Information Act.

Meanwhile, the investigation appears likely to expand beyond the State Planning Board’s hiring process. The crime branch has received complaints of irregularities in many other ministries and agencies. Such complaints are currently being investigated and the statements of the complainants could be recorded in the coming days.

The SIT, headed by Inspector General S. Ajeetha Begum, was set up against the backdrop of allegations of irregularities in various investigations conducted by the Political and Security Committee.
