Following intense protests across the country, BJP’s Dharmendra Pradhan was forced to resign as Union Education Minister on 25 July 2026. This was followed on 20 July 2026 by the Cockroach Janta Party, a “Chalo Sansad” (March to Parliament) youth movement. demanding Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation following repeated leaks of examination papers in connection with the administration of the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET), among others.

Protesters took to the streets of New Delhi and clashed with police, who pushed them back with tear gas and batons. The protests, which began last month over the leak of medical school entrance exam papers, intensified after activist Sonam Wangchuk, who began a hunger strike on June 28, was forcibly taken to hospital by police on July 18. Additionally, in the first large-scale communication outage in Delhi since the farmers’ agitation in 2021, Mantar’s mobile internet was shut down, even by protesters at the Jantar Delhi demonstration.
The protests have spread beyond the capital, with demonstrations by youth and opposition groups taking place in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Goa, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, Jammu and Ahmedabad.
