Chalakudy in Thrissur, Kerala, witnessed high drama as representatives of local authorities led by Presidents Panchayat, locked India (Nhai) in the PWD Rsthoun room on Thursday evening and Thursday evening against poor road condition and serious traffic on the national highway 544.
The protest broke after the director of the Nhai project, who previously promised to attend a meeting, could not show.
The protesters said the engineer would not be released unless the immediate measures were notified to alleviate travel suffering. At one point, the temps ignited when the police tried to force the locked door, which caused a heated scuffle with LDF leaders who organized a sit-in in front of the room.
When stand-off escalated, more elected representatives and leaders of LDF joined the protest, while other police forces were hurried. After the tense negotiations, the police were allowed to send the car to the interviews.
The engineer initially insisted that Tarring could not start immediately, but after consulting with higher Nhai officials, he assured that he would start in Maruringoor, the worst section, would start at the same night. He also told the project director that all urgent problems would be addressed and that he himself would visit the place and organize a meeting with representatives the following day. Only after the protesters agreed to issue an engineer.
Meanwhile, the High Court in Kerala was established by the Provisional Committee on Operation, which includes collectors, the Chief of the District Police and the RTO to deal with the deteriorating overload in the NH 544 section.
