All India Students Association (AISA) president Neha Bora and other leaders were detained by the Delhi Police near the Safdarjung Airport flyover in New Delhi while they were on their way to protest at Dilli Haat.

Meanwhile, AISA leaders told The Hindu that the Delhi Police had illegally taken away the phones of Neh Bor and Nirma, an AISA activist at the Maidan Garhi detention centre.

AISA head Neha Bora was released later that night and got their phone back.

Neha Bora and Ms. Nirma have been kept in an isolated room and the police are not allowing lawyers to meet them, the party said. “We demand that Neha and Nirma’s phone be returned immediately and that they be allowed to meet their lawyers,” they said.

Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) General Secretary-Liberation Dipankar Bhattacharya, political commentator Yogendra Yadav and senior advocate Prashant Bhushan were also detained.

“I am in custody. The movement is not. People are gathering at SAFDARJUNG FLYOVER right now. Reach out if you can. If they stop you, sit where you are and hold the line,” Neha Bora said in a video shared on X.

Amid curbs and restrictions by the Delhi Police, Neha Bora said in a post on X, “Dilli Haat is becoming Jantar Mantar today”.

Earlier in the day, Neha Bora criticized the Delhi Police for detaining citizens “without reason” in view of the planned protest against the CEC at Jantar Mantar.

“First the complete shutdown of the capital, now detaining and barricading all citizens in the capital and those on the way. They tell you they are not afraid, they tell you the protest will be a flop. The truth is there for all to see. Jantar Mantar 2.0 is on!” she wrote on X.

Delhi Police set up barricades from Jor Bagh to prevent protesters from entering Dilli Haat.

However, a few protesters were seen proceeding to Dilli Haat on foot using local means of transport.
