The Karnataka United Security Workers’ Union staged a demonstration outside Crawford Hall in Mysore on Tuesday over alleged irregularities by University of Mysore (UoM) security contractors.
Activists of the Union, which is affiliated to the All India United Trade Union Center (AIUTUC), have submitted a memorandum to the University of Mysore Registrar demanding an investigation into alleged irregularities by contractors to whom the university has outsourced its security requirements.
The protesters asked for an investigation by an “external” agency, not university staff.
In the memorandum, the protesters pointed out that the previous contractor was asked to appoint 152 security personnel and one supervisor. However, only 125 employees and one manager were appointed.
Still, accounts for 152 employees and one supervisor were submitted each month, with protesters claiming 27 names were fictitious.
The union further claimed that the security staff employed by the university were not given a week’s holiday, two days of earned leave every month or a laundry allowance. But the contractor submitted bills claiming those allowances, the protesters said. “How could such a misappropriation of public funds occur without the involvement of university officials,” the memo said.
The union pointed out that the new contractor, which started in November 2025, did not respect the rule of prioritizing workers based on years of service. About eight staff who were already working at some other university were given their jobs in an alleged breach of rules, the protesters said.
The union also sought a detailed investigation into the matter in the handling of employee grievances due to the alleged breach of tendering standards by the new supplier.
