The Nainamvalappu Football Association has flayed the Kozhikode Corporation for recently handing over the stadium to EMS Corporation for the SuperCross Motorbike race, which allegedly damaged the ground’s turf.
The association claimed that the stadium was handed over for the high-profile event, denying the Kerala Football Association a chance to host the semi-finals and finals of the Kerala Super League.
This happened at a time when the stadium was being considered as a venue for the Indian Super League, given the packed galleries for any football event in Kozhikode. The association demanded that the corporation should not sell the stadium for any event other than football in future.
Meanwhile, football lovers in the city under the auspices of the Kozhikode Football Stadium Protection Committee will hold a protest outside the corporation office on Saturday (January 3) at 4 pm.
