The Trust Board of Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam (Kanaka Durga Temple) has decided to lay a second ghat path to the top of Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada to cater to the growing number of devotees.

A proposal in this regard has been submitted to the Andhra Pradesh government, Temple Board Chairman Borra Radhakrishna told the media after the council meeting on Saturday.

The second ghat road is necessary as the number of vehicles is increasing and the repair work on the existing ghat road has been suspended due to heat wave. According to him, the work will resume as soon as the weather is favorable.

The new laddu manufacturing unit and Annadanam complex will be inaugurated in the first week of July.

Mr. Radhakrishna said that the council has decided to construct special shelters on top of Indrakeeladri for the comfort of devotees. This was in response to the increasing influx of devotees. The Board of Directors further decided to intensify efforts to protect the property of the temple.

Some commercial land among the 234 acres owned by the temple faced encroachments. A joint inspection with the officials would be conducted briefly, after which appropriate measures would be taken to recover the property.

The temple’s executive director VK Seena Naik said that several changes would soon be introduced in the darshan system to improve pilgrim management and streamline services, and that the use of mobile phones in the immediate vicinity of the shrine has been banned.

He said plans were being prepared to construct a Pasupatastra Alayam on the hill. The council has decided to organize Krishnamma Harathis at the confluence of Krishna and Godavari rivers in Ibrahimpatnam from June 5.

“The aim is to transform the temple into a model pilgrimage center equipped with modern amenities while preserving its spiritual and cultural heritage,” Mr. Naik added.
