The High Court in Calcutta on Thursday (April 3, 2025) stated that they found evidence of the torture of the Student Federation of the Indian Federation (SFI) at the Medinipur Police Station.
The case was heard in court with Judge Tirthankar Ghosh. There were questions about torture and why the police submitted the CCTV shots of 13 hours within 17 hours of the available shots from the police station. In this case, he asked for four hours of missing shots.
According to a lawyer, Judge Shamim Ahmed asked why her hair was a student activist, the drudel of DAS, and said that the shots received by the judge had shown about him.
Das, who filed a case, told the Hindes that the judge also raised questions about why wax was present at the police station and what purpose was used.
Justice also told general advocate Kishhore Dutt: “The police station is not fine. Say DG to act. Otherwise I will be forced to issue strict commands.”
He ordered the state administration to ensure that they restructure the female police station Paschim Medinipur. He also expressed concerns about how this particular police station works.
“I do not want to say to the open court, but the CCTV has emerged.
Students claim torture
On March 3, students from Medinipur College from West Bengal reportedly tortured in the hands of the local police after attending protests on their campus that day. Students filed a case with the Supreme Court in Calcutta.
SFI activists protested against the condemnation of violence, which took place at the Calcat University of Jadavpur 1 March. Medinipur College claimed that they were admitted to police custody without any proper cause or proper process.
One student, Das Das, told reporters that she was physically and mentally tortured in police custody. “They also received sexual comments to me. They abused me verbally. The police became the arm of the ruling party and has no independence or impartial functioning,” she said after being released from prison on March 4 at 2:30 am
Dhritiman Sarkar, a police superintendent, Paschim Medinipur, refuted the student’s claim. He said, “This left -wing organization is trying to make it a problem.”
