Prominent leaders from Assam joined the Congress on Friday (December 12, 2025) in the presence of General Secretary (Organization) KC Venugopal. Party General Secretary in charge of Assam Jitendra Singh Alwar and Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi were also present on the occasion.
Those who joined the party on Friday (December 12, 2025) included former minister Bubul Das, Gautam Dhanowar, Ashok Kumar Roy Prodhani and Longki Tokbi. Earlier, four more senior leaders – Birkhang Boro, Sankar Jyoti Kutum, Shah Nawaz and Kuldeep Rajbongshi joined the party.
Mr. Gogoi said that Assam faced serious unemployment problems during the last ten years of the BJP rule as the industry came to a standstill. “The only industry currently functioning in Assam is the hate industry run by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma,” he said. He said Assam needs to do better in promoting local industries like tea, textiles, silk and food processing.
