Appointed by the Union government on Sunday (July 26, 2026) to head a high-powered task force to implement examination reforms, Nandan Nilekani is a businessman, technocrat and bureaucrat. The technology entrepreneur and co-founder of Infosys transitioned from the private sector to public service and governance through several national and regional assignments.
Mr. Nilekani is a graduate in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai. In 1981, Mr. Nilekani joined NR Narayan Murthy and five others to found Infosys after quitting his job at Patni Computer Systems. He served as the company’s managing director, president and chief operating officer over the decades, and later became the chief executive officer (CEO) of Infosys from 2002 to 2007. During this time, the company rapidly expanded throughout the world. He was later the non-executive chairman of the company in 2017.
