Prof. Mavoothu D. appointed the responsible vice-chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University

Kerala Lok Bhavan on Monday (June 1, 2026) appointed Mavootha Duraipandi, Professor and former Director of the School of Management Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), as the Vice-Chancellor in charge of Mahatma Gandhi University.

This step follows the departure of Prof., who temporarily held the position of vice-rector of the university since the departure of the former vice-rector, prof. Sabu Thomas to retire in May 2023.

A native of Tamil Nadu, Prof. Mavoothu, currently serves as Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, CUSAT and Dean of Faculty of Management Studies, Kerala University. He holds an MBA from Madurai Kamaraj University and a PhD from CUSAT.

Until a proper appointment, the vice-rector’s office will manage. Sources indicate that the state government has not forwarded any recommendation or panel of candidates to the Lok Bhavan for the appointment of the interim vice-chancellor.
