The stage is set for the Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 Playoffs as the action continues at the Thyagaraj Indoor Stadium in Delhi from October 25 to 31. After 108 matches of thrilling action, the league will now enter its key word where eight teams will battle it out for the PKL trophy.
Season 12 saw a lot of thrills and spills that saw a stunning turnaround for last year’s runners-up, Patna Pirates. The former champions were rooted to the bottom of the table until Day 44, but completed a stunning turnaround to enter the play-offs. Puneri Paltan captain Aslam Inamdar said the playoffs are also about composure and clarity at the end of the day.
“The play-offs are about composure and clarity. I learned from the leaders how to lead a team under pressure – how to speak, motivate and read situations. These lessons are now helping me as a captain. We have worked hard to reach this stage and our only goal is to carry that belief and discipline into the play-offs,” Aslam Inamdar said during a press conference on 24 October.
Ashu Malik, captain of Dabang Delhi, said that every run and save can change things in the playoffs and said that he will have to remain calm during the matches.
“In the playoffs, every run and tackle can change the game. I realized that staying calm is my greatest strength – aggression can cost you focus. When the pressure is on, I remind myself to play with a fresh mind and trust our preparation. We have fought hard all season and are ready to give our best when it matters most,” said Ashu Delhi, captain of KC Dabang.
Teams in the PKL playoffs
Puneri Paltan and Dabang Delhi KC set the standard this season and became the first two teams to confirm their place in the playoffs with 26 points each. Meanwhile, the race for the remaining spots has intensified, with Bengaluru Bulls placed third with 22 points, closely followed by Telugu Titans, Haryana Steelers and U Mumba – all level with 20 points. Patna Pirates also made it into the line-up with their remarkable turnaround.
PKL play-off program
The play-offs are set to begin on October 26, starting with the Play-ins, where the winners will advance to Eliminator 1. Later that day, Bengaluru Bulls will face Telugu Titans in the Mini Qualifier.
The action continues on October 27 with Eliminator 2, which pits the winner of Eliminator 1 against the team that lost the Bulls vs. Titans matchup. On the same day, the top two teams will also compete in Qualifier 1 for a direct place in the final.
Eliminator 3 will follow on October 28, pitting the winners of Eliminator 2 and the Mini Qualifier against each other. The winner of this match will advance to Qualifier 2 on 29 October, where they will face the loser of Qualifier 1. The winning team from this match will secure a place in the Grand Final, which is scheduled for 31 October.
