Pro-Hindutva activists organized a protest against the fencing of IDGAH Maidan in front of the deputy Commissioner in Shivamogz and forced the District Police to intervene and calm them.
A group of activists launched Dharnu in IDGAH Maidan and demanded the removal of fencing. The site was designed for public use and hundreds of vehicles were parked daily. Suddenly, however, some people placed the poles and stopped the entry of vehicles. Fencing should be removed immediately, demanded.
Demonstrators had an argument with the police. They wanted to know how the police could allow fencing without permission of the competent authorities.
Police superintendent, shivamogg, GK Mithun Kumar, visited a place and spoke to the protesters. He asked them to withdraw the protest and assured them that the fencing would be removed late in the evening. He was also looking for people’s cooperation in maintaining peace and order in the city.
Police removed the fence by 19:30
