Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday accused the state government of allegedly delaying the launch of a Congress housing project for survivors of the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslides in Wayanad.
After attending a meeting in Wayanad, she told the media that the people of Kerala want a change in the government and hope that it will happen. Ms. Vadra claimed that she had done a lot for the rehabilitation of the survivors of the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslide, both personally and through the party.
She expressed hope that the construction of the houses would be completed on time. “There was a lot of delay due to paperwork and land issues. Fortunately, we were able to resolve them. So hopefully we will be able to complete it soon,” Ms Vadra said.
She alleged that the state government was dragging its feet in the allotment of land, which delayed the project. “If they had been more cooperative at that point, we would have been able to do it sooner,” Ms. Vadra said.
Asked about social services in her constituency, she said she was happy with the efforts but said there were delays in allocation and release of funds. “The central government’s finances are very slow. In some cases even the state’s are slow. But more than that, the central government is slowing down the funding of many programmes, which is causing delays,” Ms Vadra said.
