Rural Development and Panchayati Raj and IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge on Saturday urged Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil to release the outstanding share of central funds under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to Karnataka to ensure timely completion of works and provide access to safe drinking water for rural households.
In a letter to Mr. Patil, he said the state is proactively supporting the scheme through budgetary allocations and timely releases, including an allocation of ₹ 11,050 crore in the current financial year.
“It is pertinent to note that out of the total expenditure of ₹ 35,698.58 crore, the state’s share is ₹ 24,598.45 crore, while the central share is only ₹ 11,786.63 crore, reflecting the huge lack of matching share of the central government,” he said.
He noted that the scheme requires continuous support from the Union Government for effective implementation, including timely release of central grants. “Currently, bills worth about ₹1,700 crore are pending payment and bills worth ₹2,600 crore are under preparation,” he said.
He said that Karnataka is successfully executing the mission and showing significant physical and financial progress in 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26. According to him till date more than 86% rural households have been connected and other multi-village and individual village programs are in various stages of progress, urging timely release of outstanding funds.
