The Karnataka Prisons and Correctional Services Department on Thursday (April 30) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the RV College of Engineering (RVCE) to introduce structured programs for skill development, digital literacy and technology-based training to enhance employability and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for inmates in correctional institutions.
The MoU was signed by Alok Kumar, Director General of Police (Prison and Correctional Services) and KN Subramanya, Director, RVCE. Officials said the initiative reflects a growing emphasis on reformative justice by equipping inmates with practical skills and education to support their transition back into society. As part of the program, the department will set up two computer labs to train selected inmates in data entry and basic computer courses, which are expected to help them reintegrate into the mainstream workforce after release.
