Prioritize state’s interests in Parliament, CPI(M) urges TDP and YSRCP MPs

The CPI(M) has urged MPs from both the ruling TDP and the opposition YSRCP to prioritize the interests of Andhra Pradesh during the monsoon session of Parliament instead of extending unconditional support to the Centre.

Addressing the media here on Sunday, its State Secretary V. Srinivasa Rao urged the MPs to highlight the issues affecting the state, including the crisis faced by tobacco, maize, mango and aquaculture farmers, and seek solutions from the Union government.

The directions issued by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy asking their MPs to support the Center reflected political interests taking precedence over state welfare, he alleged.

He expressed support for environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk and student organizations protesting alleged examination irregularities, demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over repeated leaks of examination papers, and announced the party’s support for student protests in Vijayawada.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao opposed the mining and pumping projects in the tribal areas of Alluri Sitharama Raju district, alleging that they violated tribal land rights. He demanded strict implementation of the Land Transfer Regulation (LTR) Act and the PESA Act and insisted that no projects should go ahead without the consent of the Gram Sabha.

He criticized rehabilitation measures for families displaced by the proposed ArcelorMittal steel project in Anakapalli district, demanded better compensation and opposed long-term land lease agreements for solar power projects in Rayalaseema, demanding stronger guarantees for farmers.

Referring to the recent attack on a woman in Guntur district, he demanded strict action against the accused. He also accused the government of selectively targeting YouTubers and activists who criticize its policies, while failing to crack down on high-profile perpetrators.
