Prince Harry allegedly considered changing his surname from Mountbatten-Windsor to Spencer-Rodné Name of her late mother Princess Diana-in front of her brother Earl Spencer.
According to the royal commentator Charles Rae, this step would send a “terrible message” to the royal family and show that Harry is still not sure of his future. Rae spoke to the royal exclusive show of the Sun and said that the change of name highlights the shift of the direction just weeks after Harry called for reconciliation with his father and brother.
“It was just less than a month ago when he begged for reconciliation with his father and brother,” Rae said.
“And the other thing we hear-and I think the story has been well obtained-chce to change the name from Mountbatten-Windsor on Spencer. Well, it sends a terrible message to the royal family that he really doesn’t want to reconcile,” Rae added.
Harry, now 40, has retreated from the royal duties in 2020 and moved to the United States with his wife Meghan Markle. Since then, he has publicly expressed his struggles with royal life and family tension, including interviews and his memory.
Earl Spencer, Diana’s younger brother, reportedly advised Harry against such a symbolic change. While the Duke of Sussex did not publicly comment on claims, royal observers consider it another sign of internal conflict as it equals royal roots with their current life abroad.
