Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to meet the Indian women’s World Cup cricket team in New Delhi. Sources told India Today that the Harmanpreet Kaur-led party will travel to the capital on Wednesday, November 5 to meet the prime minister.
India beat South Africa in the Women’s ODI World Cup final on Sunday, November 2 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Later that night, Prime Minister Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his delight, calling the win a landmark for women’s sports in India.
“A sensational victory by the Indian team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 final. Their performance in the final was marked by great skill and confidence,” he wrote.
“The team showed exceptional teamwork and tenacity throughout the tournament. Congratulations to our players. This historic victory will motivate future champions to take up the sport,” he added.

India’s long wait for an ICC title finally ended as Harmanpreet Kaur’s side edged past South Africa in front of a packed stadium. Shafali Verma was the standout performer in the final, scoring a brilliant 87 runs and taking two crucial wickets in the second innings to seal India’s first World Cup crown.
The team’s success drew widespread praise across the political spectrum. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla congratulated the players for their performance and spirit, saying the team had “won hearts across the country”.

“Hats off to World Champion Team India. It’s a pinnacle moment for the nation as our team lifts the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 and takes India’s pride to the skies. Your stellar cricketing skills have paved the way to inspire millions of girls. Congratulations to the entire team,” Shah wrote.
After their historic win, the Indian players continued to celebrate late into the night in Mumbai. The Indian Cricket Board shared videos of their victory party and the new team anthem sung by both players and staff at the DY Patil Stadium, marking a fitting end to a momentous day in Indian cricket.
