The International Olympic Committee (IOC) eliminated its current weight class 75 kg and forced it to choose between the move to 70 kg or connect to the +80 kg division.
The IOC announcement on the program of events and athletes for The La Games captured Borgohain outside the guard.

Initially, she expressed her tendency towards a transition to 70 kg because she believes that it would be difficult for her to accumulate in the +80 kg category.
“This is a brand new information for me. It’s quite shocking. I think I’ll have to move to 70 kg, because it will be difficult for me to go up to +80 kg,” said Lovina Borgohain PTI.
However, Borgohain’s personal coach, Pranamika Bora, emphasized the need for a comprehensive assessment before the final decision.
“This report really surprised. It is too early to commit to anything. It can fight in both weight categories, because it also has a height to play for +80 kg,” Bora said.

Currently, Borgohain’s natural weight is 74 kg and Bora warned that excessive weight loss could lead to a reduction in force.
“Right now, its natural weight is 74 kg and too much could lead to loss of force. So we’ll see what gives it a greater advantage,” she added.
This is not the first time that Borgohain had to adapt to weight changes.
Before the Paris Games, after the former Olympic program was removed from the Olympic program, it moved from its preferred division 69 kg to 75 kg.
Despite the shift, she excelled and won gold at the Asian championships of 2022, won the title of the 2023 World Championship and secured silver at the Asian Games Hangzhou.
If Borgohain decides to category 70 kg, it would mean a return to the weight class close to her previous division of 69 kg, where she won bronze in Tokyo Games.
