President Salvador Nayib Bukele on Monday (April 14) refused to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a man from Maryland, who was unlawfully deported to Salvador last month.
President Salvador Nayib Bukele firmly refused the idea of sending Kilmar Abrego Garcia back to the United States. “The question is pointless. How can I smuggle a terrorist into the United States?” Bukele said, sitting next to President Trump in an oval office. “I don’t have much to return it to the United States.”
Bukele’s comments came to questions about the decisions of the US Supreme Court and the US government’s request for Garcia’s repatriation.
Trump’s attitude to deportation
Trump’s administration officials insisted that Garcia, which was sent to a notorious prison of gangs in Salvador, is a citizen of Salvador. As a result, the US does not have a word in the future. Despite the Directive of the US Supreme Court for administration, Garcia’s return, Trump officials claim that the future of the deporting lies exclusively with Salvador.
The Pami Bondi Prosecutor said: “First of all he was illegally in our country and was illegally in our country. It’s up to Salvador if they want to return it. It’s not up to us.”
The refusal to return Garcia has become the main point of the dispute between the two nations, while the situation plays in the American courts.
The role of the Supreme Court in the case
The US Supreme Court has recently ruled that Trump’s administration must facilitate Garcia’s return, a problem that has intensified the legal and diplomatic battle.
“The Supreme Court urged us to make it easier (Garcia’s return), which means it provides an aircraft,” Bondi added, stressing that the administration will support Salvador’s decision if the country decides to repatriate Garcia.
Strong Partnership Trump and Bukele
In his notes, President Trump again appreciated President Bukele and described him as “one hell of the president”. Trump and Bukele created a strong partnership, especially in terms of deportation agreements. Since March, El Salvador has accepted more than 200 Venezuelan immigrants accused of gang activities and violent crimes and placed them in prison for maximum gang security in the country.
Trump repeated his support for Bukele’s hard attitude towards crime. “We are also bad and I am all because we can do things with the president for less money and have great security,” Trump said, referring to possible future cooperation in the crime.
Deportation of other immigrants
The US deported individuals that accuses of gang membership, such as MS-13 members, to Salvador, where they are trapped in high-quality facilities. Under the agreement, the US government agreed that Salvador would pay approximately $ 6 million to accommodate these immigrants for one year.
El Salvador’s hard approach to gang violence, led by President Bukele, made the country a key player in the immigration and security efforts of Trump’s administration.
Before the press entered the oval office, Trump also mentioned in the social media post that he would be willing to send “home” US citizens to Salvador for imprisonment, suggesting that Bukele should build five more prisons to meet them.

Ongoing case
The legal battle surrounding the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia is still escalating. Judge Paul Xinis is currently examining whether she will grant the Garcia legal application to make the government explain why the Supreme Court’s decision has not yet been held. The case could set a significant precedent for future deportations and processing applications for international repatriation.
