Indian President Droubadi Murmu 3 June declared a regulation on the amendment of the Jamm and Kashmir reserve Act (J&K) to perform 85 % of the Ladak reservation, except 10 % for the economically weaker sections (EWS), the Ministry of Law announced 2 June.
This comes after the Ministry of the Interior changed the J&K reservation Act in its application in the Union (UT) Ladakhu application.
What states President Murmu?
The Ladakh Regulation Regulation (amendment) Regulation 2025 of the Union was specifically extended to Ladakh UT. It states: “Assuming that the total percentage of the reservation does not exceed 85 %, with the exception of the reservation for the economically weaker sections.”
The Regulation also amends other provisions of the Act of 2005, including parts of vacancies to be made, reservations in promotional events and reservations in professional institutions. For all, the reservations do not exceed 85 %, with the exception of 10 % of the EWS reservations.
According to the local publication, Greater Kashmir contains a breakdown of reservation provisions for 80 % reserved for planned tribes, 4 percent for residents living near the control line (LOC) and 1 % for the planned caste.
Background: The J&K reservation law
According to the legislative breast research, the draft J&K booking Act was introduced in Lok Sabha in July 2023. It rectifies the J&K reservation Act, which provides booking in jobs and admission to professional institutions to members of the planned caste (SC), scheduled tribes (ST) and other social and education).
The GK report noted that in the case of the J&K provision, if a sufficient number of candidates for specific categories are not available during recruitment, the contributions must be unoccupied and converted to the next recruitment process. The vacancies must only be determined if they remain unoccupied for more than three years.
The Ministry announcement states that they apply to a place in UT, whether on local or other bodies (except for the Cantonian council).
