
Dr. Manish Thaplyal, divisional railway manager, Thiruvananthapuram inaugurates adapted wheelchairs introduced on Monday at the Thiruvananthapuram central railway station on Monday.
In a new step to ensure available travel for all, Thiruvananthapuram Division, Southern Railway, in cooperation with NGOs Swarga Foundation, Pallium India and Care & Share, presented the “Sugamya – Breaking Bariter project” on Thiruvananthapuram. As part of this initiative, portable ramps and adapted wheelchairs are presented at the railway stations to improve the travel experience of different persons and seniors.
Dr. Manish Thaplyal, divisional railway manager, Thiruvananthapuram launched facilities in the presence of representatives of NGOs. As part of the initiative, 15 mobile ramps and 15 adapted wheelchairs were handed over to the railway. At the stations, there will be wheelchairs and portable ramps for easy access and fast deployment to the station office at various railway stations in the division. These wheelchairs are specially designed to facilitate movement without a barrier in the station and inside the coaches.
They are designed to offer users independence, comfort and safety. Portable ramps allow smooth eating and performing various passengers using wheelchairs and ensure safe and trouble -free input and output near Coach inputs. During the office, Mrs. Swarnalatha J., Administrator Administrator, Swarga Foundation was present. Higher officers A. Vijuvin, head of the operating director of the division; Lipin Raj MP, Division Manager; and Sunil Kumar, a divisional commercial manager, Thiruvananthapuram together with the station officials during this occasion were present.
The Sugamya project is a unique example of how organizations with shared vision of the service can cooperate with Indian railways to strengthen individuals differently and allow them to travel with dignity, independence and confidence, the South Railway statement said.
