Portable fish hatchery commissioned in Kakinada
A portable fish hatchery was recently commissioned at the State Institute of Fisheries Technology (SIFT-Kakinada) fish farm. It is expected to increase fish production in 750 local ponds in Kakinada district.
Fisheries Department Commissioner Rama Shankar Naik, Additional Director Fisheries and SIFT Director S. Anjali and District Collector MN Harendhira Prasad released the fish seeds at a fish farm near Kakinada town.
Scientists from SIFT-Kakinada and Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT-Vijayawada) will train members of cooperative societies on maintenance of the six ponds where the officials released fish seeds.
“The seed fish will be bred in a laboratory and released in six pilot ponds first before being distributed to the designated 750 ponds. Fishery cooperatives will be allowed to harvest fish in these 750 ponds,” said Mr. MN Harendhira Prasad.
