The Minister of Social and Transportation and Transporting Conditions of Ponnam Prabhakar claimed that BJP had sucked the blood of the poor with “Gabbar Singh tax” (GST) for eight years, and now trying to refund tax and services (GST) as if doing great service.
The Minister, who spoke at a press conference in Gandhi Bhavan, said the Center is now demanding a loan for GST rates to 5% or 18%. However, they have already doubled the prices of basic commodities. “Salt increased from 10 to 20 £ 20, gave 60 to 160 GBP and edible oil from 70 to 160 ₹. They taxed the food of the poor man more than a luxury meal in five -star hotels,” he accused. The GST regime burdened poor and small traders while offering relief to the rich. According to GST, basic needs and funeral costs were also taxed.
Mr. Ponnam, who quoted a recent statement by the Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman that the Center earned 22 lakh Crore in just six months of GST.
Mr. Prabhakar stressed that Telangana himself lost almost 7,000 crore every year due to GST. “When GST was introduced, the Union’s government promised to have losses of states for 10 years. It required the clarity of the TELANGANY trade union ministers, G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay, how they would look like the state’s loss.”
