Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Friday lauded the Lions Club of Karimnagar Dr Bhaskar Madhekar Charitable Eye Hospital in Rekurthi for its tireless eye care services for the needy.
He was speaking at the hospital after inaugurating the Lion Bomma Venkateshwar Block at Rekurthi in Karimnagar on Friday evening.
Konda Charitable Eye Hospital Chairman Venu Murthy, Secretary Prakash Holla, Kola Executive Committee Member Anna Reddy and others were present.
The minister noted that outpatient services have been provided to a whopping 8.52 million persons and free eye surgeries have been performed on more than 1.21 million patients at the charitable eye hospital since its inception in 1988. More than 9,000 free eye screening camps and community eye care awareness outreach programs have been organized under the aegis of the hundred hospital in hundreds of remote hospitals.
