Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday (Dec 21, 2025) observed that the Babri Masjid dispute ended with the Supreme Court verdict and the construction of Ram Mandir over the site, saying that there is a political conspiracy over the construction of ‘Babri Masjid’ which will only widen the rift between the two communities.
“It is a political conspiracy to renew the dispute by trying to rebuild the Babri Masjid. It is being done for votes. This is neither in the interest of Muslims nor in the interest of Hindus. A dispute that was over and there was goodwill. This will only widen the rift between the two communities,” Mr Bhagwat said at an event in Kolkata to observe 100 years of the RSS.
The RSS chief’s remark comes after suspended Trinamool Congress MP Humayun Kabir’s call to build ‘Babri Masjid’ at Beldanga in Murshidabad district. Thousands of people carried bricks to the site where the mosque is to be built, and hundreds of people visit the site every day.
Mr. Bhagwat also said that the government should not build temples or any places of worship. “The government should not build temples or any religious place. That is the rule. When the Somnath temple was built, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the home minister. The president attended its inauguration but the government money was not used. The Ram Mandir was built after the Supreme Court judgement. The government was asked to create a trust and they said. The government did not provide money…” we are all money. RSS.
Recently, the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal set up a Jagnnath temple in Digha and announced plans to set up a Durga Angan in Rajarhat and a Mahakal temple in Siliguri.
Participating in the ‘100 years Journey of RSS: New Horizons’ event, the RSS chief spoke on various issues including the attack on Hindus in Bangladesh, Hindu Rashtra and the political situation in Bengal, and live relations.
Political change in Bengal if Hindus are united RSS head
While calling for the unity of Hindu forces for political change in West Bengal, Mr. Bhagwat added that thinking about political change was not his job and the Sangh was interested in social change.
“.If the Hindu society is united, it will not take long for the situation to change in Bengal. Now as to my thoughts on political change, I want to tell you that thinking about political change is not my job. We are working for social change through the Sangh,” the RSS chief.
Commentary on the situation in Bangladesh. Mr. Bhagwat, since Hindus are a minority in Bangladesh, the situation is quite difficult.
“Although it is difficult, for maximum protection, Hindus there will have to remain united. And Hindus around the world must help them. We must help them as much as we can, within our means. We must do everything we can, and we are doing it,” he said. Pointing out that “the only country for Hindus is India,” Mr. Bhagwat said the Indian government would have to take note and do something.
Live-in relationships indicate that people don’t want responsibility
On the issue of ‘Hindu Rashtra’, Mr. Bhagwat argued that the preamble of the Constitution reflects Hinduism in a nutshell, even though the term is not there. “If Parliament ever decides to amend the constitution and add this word, whether it does or not, that is fine. We are not interested in that word because we are Hindus and our nation is a Hindu nation. That is true,” the RSS chief said.
Mr. Bhagwat said live-in relationships reflect that people are not ready to take responsibility. “This is not right. Family, marriage, is not just a means of physical satisfaction. It is a unit of society. Family is where an individual learns to live in society… So it is about preserving our country, society and religious traditions,” the RSS chief said.
