Policeman killed in terror attack in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir

A policeman was killed in a terrorist attack in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday (July 22, 2026).

The incident took place around 12.30 pm on the Anantnag-Kokernag road in south Kashmir. Initial reports suggested that a policeman on duty at the Amarnath yatra was fired upon by terrorists.

The policeman was injured in the attack and was taken to hospital. Officials said Constable Ashiq Hussain of Budgam “later succumbed to his injuries”.

Officials said reinforcements have been rushed to the scene of the attack and a search operation is underway to track down the attackers.

The attack came after a long lull witnessed in Kashmir, especially during strict arrangements for the annual Amarnath yatra in Kashmir.
