The police staff of SRIKAKULUM on Wednesday arrested eight people and restored semaglutide, antidiabetic drug worth over 2 crore.
District Police Supervisor KV Maleswara Reddy said: “The material was stolen from the production of Dr. Reddy’s laboratories in Pydibhimavaram in the district of Srikakulam.”
The arrested were identified as D. Suresh, GV Raghanendra, N. Appala Naidu, G. Kanta Rao, G. Suesh, A. Tirupathi, K. Balakrishna and B. Naveen Kumar. They all come from different districts in North Andhra and the surrounding areas.
Semaglutide, weighing about 3.38 kilograms, was stolen on February 23, 2025 from the freezer device. After receiving a complaint from the management, Mr. Maleswar created three teams to explore the case.
Teams led by Inspector JR Puram Circle M. Avatharam and Sub-Invcessor S. Chiranjeevi found in the investigation that some employees in help with external accomplices were involved in this rare case of pharmaceutical theft of high value.
