Police should be better equipped to deal with changing nature of crime: CM

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday said that the nature of crimes has changed over the years and some anti-social elements are creating unrest in the society by making abusive and inflammatory comments on social media platforms.

This tendency needed to be curbed to ensure peace and proper emphasis should be placed on increasing the conviction rate by conducting thorough investigations, he said, stressing the need to restructure the police system from time to time to achieve better results.

Mr. Naidu, who attended the ‘Future-Ready AP Police’ workshop here, said that concerted efforts needed to be made to achieve the desired results and noted that Operation Sindoor was successfully conducted with very little staff on the ground and using advanced technology.

He urged the police personnel to be friendly to the public and tough on criminals, noting that some forces of the hostile society did not hesitate to commit crimes just to annoy the government.

The Chief Minister claimed that the government could reduce the menace of ganja and drugs to a great extent and more efforts remain to be made on this front. According to him, the police should be digitally literate in line with current trends in investigations and familiarize themselves with artificial intelligence, which has become a global revolution, adding that offenses against women should be dealt with rigorously.
