Rajouri (Jammu and Kashmir) (India), March 3 (ANI): Rajouri police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Teryath seized a balloon resembling an aircraft with Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) inscribed on it.
According to the police, the object was spotted in the jurisdiction of Teryath Police Post and the police immediately acted on the information and took possession of the object.
However, it was confirmed that no electrical or electronic components were attached to the balloon-like structure.
Further details are awaited.
Earlier this month, the Indian Army foiled several infiltration attempts by Pakistani drones in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district along the Line of Control (LoC).
The Indian Army successfully foiled an attempt by at least two small quadcopters to violate the airspace along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch area in the early hours of Sunday, officials said.
According to officials, the incident occurred between 5:45 and 6:00 a.m. when the quadcopters attempted to breach Indian airspace along the ceasefire line.
Quick anti-drone actions by vigilant Indian Army personnel successfully thwarted the attempt and forced the quadcopters to return, officials said.
This was not an isolated incident; in recent days there have been several drone sightings along the ceasefire line and the international border. The Indian Army has stepped up surveillance and monitoring to counter future attempts.
Earlier on February 23, two balloons with United States and Pakistan currency attached (USD and PKR) were found near the Line of Control (LoC) in Akhnoor sector, Jammu and Kashmir police said.
The police conducted an investigation to ascertain the authenticity of the currency.
This recent development comes against the backdrop of cross-border strikes and sharp escalation of tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Islamic Emirate’s Ministry of National Defense said on Monday it had carried out airstrikes on major military installations in Pakistan, including the Noor Khan Air Base in Rawalpindi, describing the action as a response to Pakistani airstrikes on Afghan territory.
