Acting on a special intelligence, the Ramanathapuram Q-Branch police here on Monday seized 194 kg of ganja meant for smuggling to Sri Lanka.
Police said that while checking the vehicle at the Pattanamkathan East Coast Road (ECR) junction, they impounded the car based on information.
During the inspection, they discovered 194 kg of ganja wrapped in 97 bundles hidden in the car.
When the police seized the contraband, they arrested the driver Manikandan (40) from Gummidipoondi in Thiruvallur district.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the ganja was being smuggled from Chennai and was to be illegally transported to Sri Lanka.
The Q Branch police handed over the seized narcotics and the accused to the Ramanathapuram Narcotic Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for further legal action.
Police said they are currently investigating others involved in the smuggling ring.
