
A 29-year-old man was rescued by police on Friday evening (March 6) while trying to end his life on the tracks near Cumbum railway station in Markapuram district.
The incident was reported around 9.47pm when police received a 911 call at Cumbum police station from the man’s friend. The police team quickly and with the use of technological support traced the location and reached the spot in time, thereby preventing him from ending his life.
According to the police, the man was identified as Y. Gautam, a resident of Krishna district, who had been living in Cumbum for the past three months. He reportedly texted one of his friends “Missing you” suggesting he was planning to end his life for personal reasons.
His friends became suspicious after receiving the message, so they immediately called 112 and alerted the police. The control room staff informed the higher authorities and with the help of the core IT team, Gautam’s location was traced using technology.
Cumbum Police Station Sub-Inspector A. Sivakrishna Reddy rushed to the railway track near Cumbum Railway Station and rescued him in time. Police later counseled him and provided him with emotional support before handing him over to his family members.
The family members thanked the police for their quick response and timely intervention in saving his life. Prakasam District SP V. Harshavardhan Raju congratulated the Cumbum police team, control room staff and core IT team for their quick and well-coordinated response.
