The petitioner, identified as B. Venkata Ramana of Bobbili town, on Monday allegedly attempted self-immolation by pouring diesel on himself in the Collectorate premises of Vizianagaram district headquarters. The police officers present in the complaints hall noticed his attempt, rushed with the officials and prevented him from lighting the fire.
According to the two-page complaint, purportedly written by the petitioner, Mr. Venkata Ramana, he sought action from the concerned authorities to prevent the local residents of Bobbili from encroaching on his land. Speaking to The Hindu on Monday, Vizianagaram District Collector S. Rama Sundar Reddy said the petitioner is believed to be mentally unsound.
“The petitioner has been registering complaints every week without any evidence to support his claims. We had earlier asked his family members to stop him from registering false complaints,” said Mr. Rama Sundar Reddy.
The Collector further added that Mr. Venkata Ramana failed in his self-immolation on Monday as people around him prevented him from doing so and he was later handed over to his family.
