“The role of police officials and personnel in maintaining law and order and ensuring peace in the society is crucial and it is everyone’s duty to remember their sacrifice and extend a helping hand to police families,” said Dharwad Zilla Panchayat CEO Bhuvanesh Patil.
He was addressing a rally on Tuesday after paying tributes to police martyrs at the Police Memorial Day program at District Police Headquarters, Dharwad.
“Police officers and staff are dedicated to the safety of civilians and their civil rights, and it is our duty to treat them with respect. They play a very vital role in protecting the health of society,” he said.
Mr. Patil said that the government has taken several steps to improve the police system, police infrastructure and add more equipment.
“Various committees have already submitted their reports. Based on their reports, various measures have been taken to provide advanced training and facilities. The government will always stand by the police personnel and the department,” he said.
He said it was important for everyone to remember the role of family members of police officers and staff in enabling them to do their jobs honestly.
Director, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Dharwad, Venkappayya Desai said that maintaining law and order and serving the society with honor is not limited to police officials and personnel.
Every citizen has a great responsibility in this regard, he said.
Superintendent of Police Gunjan Arya, who delivered the opening remarks, read out the names of the police martyrs.
A number of serving and retired police officers, their family members and people from different social strata took part in the Remembrance Day celebrations.

Attending the Police Remembrance Day program at Old CAR Ground in Hubballi on Tuesday, Justice Pallavi BR said that the role of the general public in protecting and maintaining the good health of the society is equally important.
Paying tribute to the police martyrs, she said that while the police have served round the clock to maintain law and order in the society, it is important that the general public extend the necessary cooperation to them.
Hubballi-Dharwad Commissioner of Police N. Shashikumar mentioned in the history of Police Remembrance Day that a total of 191 policemen and personnel lost their lives on duty between 1 September 2024 and 31 August 2025.
Good cooperation from the public will help to further improve the quality of police services, he said.
Earlier, police personnel fired three rounds in the air as a tribute to the martyrs, followed by a rendition of the National Anthem by the Police Band.
Hubballi-Dharwad Urban Development Authority Chairman Shakir Sanadi, Swarnaa Group Managing Director VSV Prasad, former MP IG Sanadi, Deputy Commissioners of Police Raveesh CR and Mahaning Nandagavi and a number of serving and retired police officers and civilians were present.
