Sub-Inspector Nagaraj of New Town Yelahanka has been suspended for his alleged association with the accused involved in many land disputes and civil cases.
Ramesh Banoth, Joint Commissioner (East Division), issued the suspension order on Friday. Nagaraj was said to be part of the inner circle of the accused Dasha.
Although Nagaraj was aware of his parentage, he was reportedly seen in public with Dasha. Many videos and photos of the policeman celebrating his birthday with Dasha and being seen in public on duty have gone viral on social media.
When the pictures circulated on social media and drew criticism, Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh ordered an inquiry led by Mr Banoth. The joint commissioner’s investigation report reportedly found that the sub-inspector was in close association with Dasha.
Sources said that though Dasha had no cases in the city limits, he was involved in several cases, including mediation of civil disputes, in the Bengaluru jurisdiction.
Nagaraj’s “friendship” with Dasha came to light with Home Minister G. Parameshwara’s repeated statements that the government would not tolerate the involvement of police officers in civil cases.
Director General of Police MA Saleem also warned police officers not to get involved in such matters.
With this suspension, the total number of police officers who have been relieved of duty this year has risen to 131.
