Police Kolkata on Sunday (July 11, 2025) introduced a nine -member special investigation team (SIT) to explore the alleged rape of mental health advisor by a student of the Institute of Management in Kalcato.
Police on Saturday (July 10, 2025) arrested Premanand Mahaveer Toppanavar, 26 -year -old student, for sexual assault inside the institute. The accused was transported to police custody and accused according to Section 64 (sentence for rape) and 123 (causing poison injury, etc., with the intention of committing a crime) Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita on the basis of a complaint of the survivor.
Police Kolkata was looking for CCTV shots in the premises of Iim-C from the Institute offices. Questions about how the advisor could enter the institute in Joka in the city without enrolling at the entrance to the register.
According to Kolkata, the survivors claimed that she had met the accused inside the hostel View Lake View in the area and had pizza and water. Then she allegedly began to feel dizziness, but “was not allowed” to go to the toilet. She claimed that she lost his consciousness shortly afterwards and was subsequently raped on Friday (July 18, 2025). In its statement, the Institute stated that this matter is handled with “maximum seriousness” and cooperates with criminal proceedings who investigate the incident.
Father says the woman was not involved in the accused
The Western Bengal Commission for Women took the incident Suo Mot. Commission chairwoman Leena Gangopadhyay said she was in contact with the police during the incident and visited a woman and her family. “We want the truth to come out. If any social stigma or family pressure prevents her family to speak freely, we need to deal with it. We are watching the development carefully,” she said.
However, the father of the surviving sexual assault stated that his daughter did not participate with the accused.
The accusation of sexual assault at the Premier Union government institute comes within three weeks of alleged gang rape and an attack on the South Calcutta Law College and raises questions about women’s safety in educational institutions in the city.
