A special drive was conducted by the Cyberabad police with a large participation of residents and morning walkers to remove the dangerous strings of glass-covered kites from roads, trees and public spaces to prevent injuries and loss of life.
Cleaning and awareness campaign was conducted in Gachibowli, Ameenpur, Patancheru, Kollur and IDA Bollaram on police station limits. In Gachibowli, three police teams along with local volunteers combed Kondapur and Majid Banda, removing discarded manja from trees, electricity poles, buildings and roadside areas while educating people about the risks.
In Ameenpur, about 150 walkers joined the police in removing kite strings from Ilapur land and Thulasivanam Colony. Police officers informed residents that the manufacture, sale and use of dangerous string is illegal and punishable by law.
Similar awareness and removal drives were held at Maitri Ground, Saki Cheruvu and near the Government Hospital in Patancheru as well as along the ORR Radial Road and Ozone Heights Ground in Kollur. At IDA Bollaram, teams cleared glass strings found hanging and strewn on the roads.
Police have warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone caught producing, storing, selling or using the banned food. Members of the public have been urged to alert the police by dialing 100 or inform the nearest police station if they see it being sold anywhere, and to safely remove and dispose of any dangerous string found in public places.
