The government rail police (GRP) confiscated around 500 kg of rice intended for supply under the public distribution system from the express train to the Katpadi railway station on Wednesday.
The police said that special police teams were created on the basis of the collector of VR Subbulaxmi to prevent pDS rice from smuggling in the district. During a surprising check at the railway station, the police team looked at Kakinada – Bengaluru Express Train, where they found 20 bags of rice near the toilet on the train. They were caught by rice and handed over to the Katado Taluk of the Stock Officer of the Ministry of Civilian vans.
The police analyzed the CCTV shots at the station and found that several people would get out of the compartment without any luggage and never started the train again. The police said that PDS Rice was collected from the public in cities such as Arcot, Walaiah, Arani and the surrounding villages.
