‘Sonu’, the trained police dog who helped solve the murder, will receive a pat on the back from the Kadapa district police on Thursday.
Police dog ‘Sonu’ played a key role in tracking down the accused in the murder that took place in Kadapa city on December 11 evening.
According to the police, vallepu venkaiah alias venkat was found dead at NGO stands in swaraj nagar on December 11 and on the complaint of his mother vallepu Subbamma, a case was registered with the rim police.
When the dog squad was pressed into service, Sonu arrived at the crime scene and went on the trail of the accused, contributing significantly to the speedy arrest of the accused.
When the accused, identified as Arun Kumar, and the juvenile allegedly involved in the case came to know about Sonu moving around his residence, they surrendered to the police on December 17 through the municipal revenue officer.
Arun was produced before a court which sent him to judicial custody. The minor was sent to a juvenile home. Physical objects and electronic evidence such as mobile phones, photographs have been handed over for forensic examination.
Broken friendship
Childhood friends Arun and Venkat turn into enemies after Arun fails to pay back some money that Venkat arranged for him by hitching a motorbike. After Venkat hurled abuse at Arun’s family members, they held a grudge. He got him drunk and then hit him on the head with cement blocks, according to police.
Dog detective
Sonu was recently inducted into the district police canine unit at Mangalagiri headquarters, after completing dual training in explosives and criminal detection. Sub-divisional police officer (Kadapa) A. Venkateswarlu called Sonu a “proven asset” and patted him on the back saying, “Well done Sonu”.
