Hunter, a trained German Shepherd police dog who brought laurels to the department by solving several cases, breathed his last on Thursday.
After undergoing rigorous training at the Integrated Intelligence Academy (IITA) in Moinabad, Hunter began service in Tirupati. Police officers recall the dog’s special skills in solving crime related to red sanders and catching the “most wanted” smugglers.
After serving the department for several years, the dog was recently diagnosed with cancer and eventually succumbed to the disease.
On the instructions of Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu, the final rites of Hunter were performed in a special manner during which a staff led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Armed Reserve) D. Srinivasa Rao paid their last obeisance.
