Anti-barotics and local police have intensified the supervision of rented houses and cottages occupied by migrating workers in various parts of the Kozhikode district in the framework of the continuing efforts to reduce the abuse of addictive substances and drug trafficking. Police sources said that the growing involvement of migrating workers in drug -related cases is the primary reason for placing their accommodation under the scanner.
Instructions were also issued to local administrators and the population of the population to monitor suspicious places where large groups of migrating workers live. Police patrols were intensified in several areas with a narrower selection where migrant workers, including women, were recently caught by encouraging drug parties, the officials said.
Resources with district anti-arotic action forces (Dansaf) said that many migrating workers were suspected of negotiations as agents for international drug cartels, often operating in illegal trade as part-time activity. “We carried out insights in various suspicious places to seize smuggled narcotics and detain agents who bring them from other countries,” they added.
The leading officer with anti-narcotics Squad urged real estate owners to thoroughly verify the identity of migrating workers before leased their premises to avoid future complications. “There were several incidents where migrant workers with criminal facilities abused rented real estate as shelters or storage space for drug trafficking,” the officer said.
As part of the increased vigilance, the police also began to monitor the register of migrant workers maintained by the Ministry of Labor and local administrators.
Details of most workers are now accessible through the recently introduced online registration system. In addition, the police received a list of suspicious migrant workers who allegedly fled from other countries after committing various crimes.
The Sub-Invcessor with Dansaf said that the government railway police and the forces of rail protection are also involved in intensified control activities throughout the state. The migrant workers’ movement are now carefully monitored at the main railway stations, bus booths, tourist destinations and other public spaces to prevent the smuggling of illegal consignments, he added.
