
The police nabbed four chain robbers, two wheel lifters and thieves in different cases and recovered stolen property worth a total of ₹24.97 crore.
Police Commissioner SD Sharanappa told a press conference on Thursday that the arrests were the result of a coordinated investigation by special police teams formed to unravel a series of thefts and robberies reported across the city in recent times.
The teams were formed under the leadership of Assistant Commissioners of Police Praveen Nayak and Sharanabasappa Subedar. They were led by Inspectors of Station Bazaar, Chowk, RG Nagar and MB Nagar police stations.
Pulling out the chain
Regarding the chain snatching case details, the police commissioner said Basamma Dyage, who is a cleaning staff from Pragati Colony, lodged a complaint stating that unidentified men snatched a 10 gram gold chain from her neck while she was walking on the road.
Based on the complaint, the MB Nagar police team investigated local leads and technical inputs which eventually led to the identification and arrest of four accused identified as Abbu Shaikh of Umar Colony, Majid of Bilal Bagh Colony, Shaikh Hussain of Sonia Gandhi Colony and Mohammed Arif of Millat Nagar.
Police recovered stolen property worth ₹6.11 million, including a mangalsutra worth ₹1.50 million. They also seized three motorcycles and a cosmetic bag from them.
Burglary
In the case of a burglary reported in Mahalakshmi Layout, the victim Shailaja registered a complaint at the RG Nagar police station.
Police have arrested the accused Suresh (also known as Gangaram Chavhan), a resident of Maindargi village, who broke the lock of her house and stole 45 grams of gold ornaments worth ₹6.75 lakh while she was visiting her native place.
Bicycle theft
Police managed to crack two cases of bike theft registered at Chowk and Station Bazaar police stations.
In a case registered at Chowk police station, police arrested Shaikh Nissar Ahmed and recovered eight stolen motorcycles worth ₹3.90 lakh from him, the police commissioner said.
In the second case registered at Station Bazaar police station, police arrested Ramachandra Hosamani, a resident of Korur village in Kalagi taluk, and recovered 14 stolen motorcycles worth ₹8.20 lakh from him, he added.
