Parvatipuram-Manyam District Superintendent of Police SV Madhava Reddy said that ganja smuggling and its use would be taken seriously as the government is to ensure that the district is free of all narcotics.
Speaking to The Hindu on Tuesday (December 30), he said the police department has appointed special teams to check the transportation of ganja to the district. He said the police would continuously monitor the police at checkpoints set up at several places including Kuneru, Komarad, Elwinpet, Battili, Bhamini and other places.
He said that the police would especially focus on the AP-Udisha border to curb the menace permanently. He said that about 2,800 kg of ganja has been seized from various places in the last few months. “We are conducting awareness camps to explain the adverse impact of drug use on health, family and social life. Awareness rallies are also going on. We are confident that the district will be completely drug free by 2026,” said Mr. Madhava Reddy.
