Police are stepping up night patrols and vehicle checks in Sri Sathya Sai district
Police conducted visible policing, night patrols and vehicle checks from Saturday night to Sunday morning in Sri Sathya Sai district.
Speaking to the media here on Sunday, Superintendent of Police (SP) S. Satish Kumar said the operation targeted crime-prone areas, major junctions and other sensitive places where surveillance was maintained to prevent illegal activities.
“Checks were conducted along inter-state borders to prevent illegal transportation and to monitor the movement of anti-social elements entering the district. We were also considering strengthening road safety enforcement by conducting drink-drive checks on major roads and highways. Cases were also registered against motorists found violating traffic and safety regulations,” the SP said.
During the checks, the police interrogated suspicious persons moving in the middle of the night without valid reasons. The details of these persons were recorded and fingerprints of some persons were taken for verification. There was also advice on the risks associated with unnecessary movement at night.
The SP said security has also been tightened at banks, ATMs, temples, pilgrimage centers and residential areas. “Special emphasis is placed on locked houses and isolated residences to prevent theft and other property crimes,” he said.
Mr. Satish Kumar said that the police are simultaneously conducting awareness programs in the villages on cyber crime, prevention of child marriage and safety of women and children.
