Police are on alert to curb morale policing and harassment this Valentine’s Day

February 14, 2026

As Hyderabad slips into the Valentine’s mood and themed decorations brighten up restaurants and gift shops filling their shelves with roses and cupcakes, the Hyderabad police is gearing up to step up patrolling across the city to prevent incidents of moral policing, harassment of couples or any untoward clashes.

Officials from the Hyderabad and Malkajgiri police commissionerates said security has been tightened around popular hangout spots, including parks, malls and cafes, to deter groups of vigilantes and ensure that young couples are not subjected to intimidation or harassment.

Within Hyderabad city limits, key public spaces such as Tank Bund, Necklace Road, NTR Park and Sanjeevaiah Park, along with areas around major shopping malls, will be under close surveillance. “The entire force has been instructed to remain alert and respond immediately to any vigilante or illegal activities,” said an official from Khairatabad area.

Meanwhile, in Cyberabad, police indicated they would largely continue routine patrolling. The Serilingampally zone officer noted that couples often visit parks, food streets and public places in the IT corridor till evening and that no significant problems were reported in previous years.

Overall, police emphasized that consenting adults celebrating Valentine’s Day within the bounds of the law cannot be stopped or harassed. They warned that strict action will be taken against any fringe elements who try to interfere and create disorder.
