Police on Saturday diverted traffic to avoid congestion on national highways with people returning to workplaces in Chennai and Hyderabad after the Sankranti festival.
Traffic moved slowly between Vijayawada-Chennai and Vijayawada-Hyderabad at Garikapadu, Kaza, Kalaparru and other toll gates as many private vehicles and tour buses were queuing up to go to Telangana and Tamil Nadu.
A huge number of passengers could be seen at the bus and railway stations due to the festive rush. Police have organized patrols and extra staff have been deployed on national highways and toll plazas to avoid traffic jams.
